Lenscape Kerala presents a travelling collection of 100 curated photographs by 10 leading Indian photographers, bringing the state’s landscapes, heritage and lived experiences to audiences across India.

At a glance: what Lenscape Kerala brings to travellers and viewers

Lenscape Kerala is a moving photo exhibition organised by Kerala Tourism to highlight the state’s visual diversity—nature, monsoon moods, coastal life, cuisine, festivals and spirituality—framed through the work of ten distinguished photographers. Launched with an inauguration at Travancore Palace Gallery in New Delhi, the display is designed to act as an invitation for travellers to rediscover Kerala’s experiential appeal.

The exhibition was inaugurated online by P A Mohamed Riyas, Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala. Dignitaries present included Suman Billa, IAS, Additional Secretary and Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Sreedhanya Suresh, IAS, Additional Director (General), Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala. The curatorial and creative team features art historian Uma Nair as curator and conservation photographer Balan Madhavan as photography director, supported at the ceremony by Dr Aswathy Srinivas, Additional Resident Commissioner, Kerala House, New Delhi.

Why a travelling exhibition matters for tourism

By taking curated visual stories to multiple urban centres, the exhibition serves as a soft invitation for cultural travellers to consider Kerala not merely as a destination, but as a place for immersive travel experiences. Photographs can spark interest in themed itineraries—heritage walks, backwater cruises, festival visits or culinary tours—and influence travellers to add Kerala to their next itinerary.

Thematic highlights on display

  • Nature and monsoon: lush forests, rain-soaked landscapes and the life that thrives in Kerala’s wet season.
  • Coastal and fishing life: everyday rhythms of coastal communities and harbour scenes.
  • Heritage and spirituality: temple architecture, ritual processions and intimate festival moments.
  • Cuisine and culture: foodways, market scenes and craft traditions that shape local identity.

Practical tips for visitors and travellers

Plan visits around the listed hours and expect evocative, contemplative imagery that rewards time spent. Combine a gallery visit with local experiences—museum tours with live guides, food walks or short cultural workshops—to make the outing a fuller travel moment. For those inspired to travel, booking options and tailored tours that align with photographic themes are increasingly available through online platforms.

Lenscape Kerala is intended to be an annual feature, with future editions spotlighting groups such as women photographers, youth or international contributors, ensuring fresh perspectives each year. The organisers emphasise that such exhibits prompt viewers to pause and engage with less-explored stories of place and people.

Visual exhibitions like this one underline the value of seeing a destination in person: nothing replaces actually standing in a landscape, joining a festival or tasting regional cuisine.
